Types of eLearning Courses

Web-Enhanced - This mode uses the internet/CMS to enhance an on-campus course by putting some of your course content online. Some instructors choose to put all course content online for student reference and others just put pieces of their course online. ITV courses and Telecourses are required to be web-enhanced. Faculty choosing to web-enhance their courses should post the syllabus, handouts or presentations used in class, and assignments. Faculty can add more to enhance their course such as discussion boards, assignment dropboxes, and tests (or self-checks).

Web Hybrid – This mode uses Internet/CMS to deliver a portion of a course that meets in-person. Typically, a course will meet half in-person with instruction (50%) and half online (50%). Content should include individual, group, or team assignments; discussion boards; drop boxes; chats; testing; and more.

Web Local - Courses listed as web local are completely online (content, assignments, exams, discussions, projects, etc.), and offered only to students that live in the vicinity to attend the campus. The two biggest reasons this mode is used are also its advantages.

Web KYVC - Courses listed as web KYVC are completely online (content, assignments, exams, discussions, projects, etc.) and students can register regardless of where they live. More than likely, you and your students will never meet face to face.

  • The World Wide Web (WWW) can be used in multiple ways to deliver instruction, assess student learning, and provide an interaction among students and between the instructor and students. World Wide Web instruction can be designed to be accessed by students at their convenience. HCTC has coined the term eLearning to mean any web-related course.
  • Blackboard (Bb) is the current supported course management systems [CMS] that KCTCS and Hazard Community and Technical College utilizes. Blackboard runs over the Internet on a separate server from HCTC.
