Training Opportunities

HCTC Trainings

HCTC Trainings are conducted periodically throughout each semester. One-on-one trainings and small group trainings are available. To set-up a training contact Dr. Paul B. Currie at paul.currie@kctcs.edu or by phone at 606-487-3246 (extension 73246).


SoftChalk

SoftChalk is a software program designed to create web pages in a user-friendly interface. Free Webinars are available for those interested in learning more about SoftChalk.


Wimba

The Wimba Collaboration Suite offers a rich array of collaborative tools that allow faculty to retain the highly personal and lively nature of traditional classroom instruction. From voice to video, from podcasting to content authoring to instant messaging, the Wimba Collaboration Suite works seamlessly within existing online courses so instructors never need a new username or password, and never have to leave their familiar online course environments.

Current KCTCS training opportunities include:

In Person / Hands on
The in person / hands on training sessions are usually organized by each college. This training can be anywhere from 1 to 3 hours or 1 to 3 full days of training. The instructor is either Paige Brooks-Jeffiers from the system office or one of the campus eMentors.

Online / Asynchronous

In the future, we will have 3-5 minute tutorials designed to help you learn the CMS quickly and efficiently. In the meantime, please use these tutorials create by George Washington University: View the tutorials.

Webinars / Watch, listen and ask questions

Webinars are online seminars. You watch from your computer monitor and use your phone for audio. This does mean you have to have simultaneous access to the internet and a phone line to participate. They usually run about 1 to 2 hours and cover a particular topic in a CMS. An notification will also be send via email for these webinars. You may suggest a topic for a webinar by emailing Paige Brooks-Jeffiers.
