Kudzu now publishes two issues annually. The spring issue, which has been published since 1993, is open to anyone. The reading period for the spring issue is August 1 through February 1. Our new fall issue is open to HCTC students only. The reading period is year round, although the decision deadline for the fall issue is October 15.

All students wishing to submit work for the fall issue must submit work via email. We must verify that you are indeed an HCTC student (meaning that you are currently enrolled at HCTC or that you have taken a course with an HCTC faculty member during the reading period for the current issue).

Kudzu General Submission Guidelines

General Facts Regarding All Submissions:

• Never submit an original copy
• No topic restrictions
• Deadlines are postmark deadlines --
•                   Spring Issue -- February 1
•                   Fall Issue -- October 15
• Do not summarize your work; let the writing speak for itself
• If submitting more than one genre of work, please submit separately
• Submissions must be typewritten, include a cover letter containing biographical and publication information, and remember to use either the Microsoft Word or Rich Text formatting.
•                                  You may submit through the mailing address or via email!
• All work submitted without a SASE (self-addressed stamped envelope) will be recycled. Response will only be given if a SASE or email address is provided
• There is never a fee for general submission to our literary magazine.

All work will be considered if guidelines are appropriately followed; please adhere to the following:

Fiction & Essays: Should be no more than 4,000 words. Name and contact information on the first page, please!
Poetry: Submit up to 5 poems, each containing no more than 4 pages per poem. Name and contact page on each poem.
Pen and Ink Drawings: Size should be no larger than 7” x 9.”
Photography: Black & white photos only. If work is accepted then the original 4” x 6” must be provided. Submit as jpeg format.

Keep in mind. This is a college literary magazine
and some work may be unsuitable for publication;
however, send your very best work, regardless of topic!
